Getting to know Daisy, our instructor from BakersBodega Pico Rivera

One of our instructors opens her heart and tells us about one of her passions, baking and decorating, as well as what it means to be our instructor.

I started to decorate at the age of 21, I took classes at michael’s then I met Kathy Moreno and she taught me the basics of everything I know. In the industry I have worked at bakery called Sugar and Spice and here at BakersBodega.I’m not a big fan of cake but if I have to pick I would go with chocolate.I been with BakersBodega 5 years. I started here thanks to Yvonne and Bill. I was a regular customer here and Yvonne asked me if I wanted to work here and I decided to apply and Bill hired me as a cashier. I was a cashier for about 3 years or so then I got offer the instructor position.

My passion is to teach other people what I know so my dream is to be known I want people to know “That’s Daisy from BakersBodega let’s take a class with her” that will make me happy. We are moving locations so that’s one big project with the company but I want the classes to grow even more so I feel that’s where my focus is I want to grow with the company. As of a now I don’t think of opening a business or nothing like that. I do want to keep learning to better myself though.

I think one of the hardest techniques I had to perfect is making buttercream look really smooth I think anyone in this business know what I’m talking about (lol). But practice makes perfect so I have accomplished that. Let’s see an advice to anyone that is doing this for fun or to start a business the key is patience and love for what you do. When you put love into your work it becomes more satisfying and relaxing as you do it, and practice as much as you can things get easier.

A person that I admire in this industry would be sugar geek she is and amazing cake decorator and you could tell she loves what she does. I think when you’re in any industry like this or fashion or makeup etc, there’s new trends that come out all the time so I think I’m always going to be learning as years go by. I’m never going to stop learning something new. A cake that I would like to learn would be to sculpt a human being and that’s my next project.

How many cakes have I done? I would say more than 100 for sure. For my birthday I never do my own cake. They always buy one but prefer flan or Kathy’s cookies.

What’s the hardest thing in decoration I don’t think anything is hard if you set up your mind to it and if your passionate about it you will accomplish anything u set your mind to.  I like to decorate more than baking., when I start decorating I zone out into another world it’s just me and whatever I’m decorating in front of me I love that feeling. Stress free. My favorite thing to decorate would be cookies. I would be chocolate any day any time

My favorite cake I have done would be the 3D unicorn it was so much fun to do it and to teach it was even better.
